Rep. Adam Smith backs Kristine Reeves

Former State Rep. Kristine Reeves entered the contest for Washington’s open 10th Congressional District on Monday, and less than 24 hours later picked up the coveted endorsement of veteran U.S. Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash.

“Kristine has a tremendous ability to bring people together to solve problems: Simply put, she is relentless,” said Smith, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee and dean of the state’s House delegation.

The 10th District was carved out of the 2010 Census, which gave Washington one more seat in Congress, and much of its territory in Pierce County was once represented by Smith. It has been nicknamed the “Denny District” because it was carved out for U.S. Rep. Denny Heck,  D-Wash., who is retiring from Congress at the end of this year.
